Course Enrollment and Requirements to become a Certified Professional Aromatherapist:
Students have up to 1 year to complete the course. To receive your Certification from The Lorrie Hargis International School of Aromatherapy, and be entitled to call yourself a Certified Professional Aromatherapist, all students must:
Once you have successfully completed both Certified Professional Aromatherapist programs you will be a graduate of The Lorrie Hargis International School of Aromatherapy. Graduates are entitled to call themselves Certified Aromatherapists and will have the skills, knowledge and understanding to work confidently in all aspects with essential oils.
This level introduces the history of Aromatherapy and profiles the use of 20 essentials oils. It comprises how to use essential oils, create effective blends, safety along with methods of application. Once completed you will receive your Level 1 Certified Aromatherapist Certification.
Level 1 includes:
This level develops an in-depth knowledge of 65 essential oils and teaches Professional Aromatherapists how to find their niche in the field of Aromatherapy while building a successful business and enhancing client based skills. Once completed you will receive your certification as a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist.
Level 3 includes EVERYTHING IN BOTH Level 1 and Level 2 PLUS:
They are independent, self-study programs. You will be fully supported in all aspects of each course by the online forum director, Lorrie Hargis RA, and through module coaching calls, webinars and interaction with fellow students on the School’s forum. Full support for the Case Study Assignments and Research Papers will be provided throughout the courses and your assignments reviewed and feedback given.
These distance learning courses set the standard for online learning. Our digital curriculum contains all the information you will need to become confident and intuitive in the use of Essential Oils for personal use or in your client based business.

Lorrie Hargis, RA is an internationally recognised Registered Aromatherapist, Iridologist and Certified Flower Essence Practitioner and Kinesiologist. She has taught all over the world – America, Europe and Asia. Lorrie is currently based in France where she teaches Masters Students at the University of Montpellier. Lorrie has also delivered six month training courses in skin care and perfume product development, registration approval and marketing based on essential oils for interns from universities all over France. She has delivered Aromatherapy courses to students from all over the world and taught Certified Aromatherapy courses at the Aromatherapy Institute and Research in California. She is a published author – “Common Scents – A Practical Guide to Aromatherapy”, now in its 2nd edition; “Using Common Scents” and “Essential Detox using Common Scents”. Lorrie is a guest speaker at Conferences and Conventions for health and wellness companies and professional Aromatherapy Trade bodies.
Lorrie has founded two Aromatherapy companies in the USA and France. She has worked in the French perfume, skin care and cosmetic industry using essential oils and natural, organic materials for over 11 years. She researched the ingredients for specific formulations and developed and obtained approval and registration from the European Commission for over 120 entirely new organic products – including perfume, face and body skin care, shampoos and bath and shower gels. She is a consultant for an internationally known natural health and wellness company.
Lorrie has had her own holistic health practice since 1988, combining her unique understanding of Aromatherapy, Iridology, Kinesiology, Nutrition and Flower Essences to help many people to achieve better health and wellness. She continues to be actively involved in current research and developments and trade regulations for Aromatherapy practice and commerce. She annually attends the Conferences of the International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades (IFEAT), Phyto’Arom – The International Congress of Aromatherapy and Medicinal Plants held in Grasse, France and The European Federation of Essential Oils. She regularly visits essential oil suppliers in France, Corsica, Sri Lanka, Morocco and Italy. Lorrie was involved with ECOCERT – the controlling and certifying body for the authenticity and traceability of essential oils and all organic products from growers, suppliers to the final end product.
Lorrie stays up to date with current methodologies for delivering online courses and training and has recently completed training in online distance education and marketing. She has practical experience of working in the Aromatherapy Industry, in addition to being a Registered Aromatherapist and Aromatherapy teacher which gives her unique insights into preparing her students to qualify and work as Aromatherapists.
Sue Griffiths is a teacher and university lecturer with 40 years professional experience teaching students of all ages. Sue has taught and given conference presentations in universities and schools in Britain, Europe and the Far East. She has expertise in teaching students with learning differences and in designing and managing curriculum programmes at all levels. Sue is a good listener and has a friendly and knowledgeable approach to working with students. Her style is to treat each student as a unique individual. Her sense of humour and excellent communication skills make her a good teacher to accompany you on your learning journey. Sue’s mission is to enable students of all ages and abilities to achieve their full learning potential and to support them every step of the way with kindness and understanding.
