Borage, The Healing Balm for your Heart & Skin
Have you ever heard of the Borage flower? It is a blue flower with the petals in the shape of a five pointed star and in the center of the flower are five prominent stamens and black anthers. The Borage flower petals are soft with a sweet, honey-like taste mixed with faint vegetal undertones. The leaves of Borage are grey-green leaves covered in white hairs at maturity, and fuzzy green and have the flavor of cucumbers.
The Borage flower originally comes from the Mediterrean farther to the East in Syria. I found this interesting because in France, we have Borage growing everywhere and at one time France occupied Syria. This brings up what is the meaning of the word Borage? According to Kaminski et al,. 2004, the Borago plant was originally called “Corago,” referring to the state of courage associated with it. The word courage implies a soul quality intimately related to the heart (cor in Latin for heart);” in French, coeur.
The Borage flower is a healing balm on three levels of the human being: Emotional, Spiritual and Physical.
How can Borage Heal Your Emotional Heart and Spirit?
Do you ever feel discouraged, depressed and full of despair where have no faith in your the way your life is going?
According to Dr. Bach the founder of flower essence each living plant has an inherent, original energy pattern.
To obtain the original energy pattern flowers are placed in a glass bowl with spring water and put in the sun for 2 to 3 hours. The sun infuses the energetic pattern into water thus it is called the sun method.
Borage flower essence is prepared by the sun method.
Kamanski, states in the Flower Essence Repetory, p. 179 that the energetic imbalance that Borage helps with is “heavy- heartedness, lack of confidence in facing difficult circumstances. The positive qualities of Borage are ebullient heart forces, bouyant courage and optimism. Click here
Who couldn’t use that? Everyone can benefit from being able to be resilent and bounce back from a break up, death, or overwhelming situation where you feel like you are drowning and need a life raft. Borage is exactly that as the renowned French herbalist Maurice Mességué (1921-2017), whose patients included Winston Churchill, quoted a verse from the famed 11th century School of Salerno: “When talking of borage this much is clear, that it warms the heart, and it brings good cheer”. He also referred to Mattioli who prescribed borage for weak hearts, to cool fevers and calm delirium” (Mességué, 1975/1981).
To uplift your heart and spirit with Borage flower essence take 4 drops under the tongue four times daily for 28 days. You can also use Borage flower essence on your Acupressure point Heart (H7) Spirit Gate which is located on the under side of the wrist (palm side) at the crease along the pinky finger side, just inside the little tendon you can feel on that side. Heart (H7) is the Earth and source point for the Heart Meridian. This point calms and grounds you when you need to listen to your heart and what it is telling you.
Place a drop of Borage flower essence on Heart 7 and apply with gentle pressure and hold. Apply once to twice daily for 28 days.

Borage also offers its healing oil made from cold pressing its seeds. Many useful properties of this oil are attributed to its high gamma linolenic acid content which have been studied for vivo toxic and in vitro cytotoxic effects on DNA. In a study, Tasset – Cuevas et al., 2013 states, “Based on the antimutagenic and cytotoxic effects along with the ability to increase the health span, we propose supplementation with borage seed oil.”
Borage has been used as a treatment for various degenerative diseases including heart disease and fatty liver. According to Al-Okbi et al., 2018, “Borage and fish oil with or without antioxidants protect from cardiovascular and fatty liver diseases with variable degrees.”
The thing to remember is you need to add GLA’s to protect your body from free radicals and to produce hormones. Therefore, you need to make sure you are getting GLA’s in your diet daily through plants, and fish. I suggest taking a plant based supplement that I have been since I was in my late 30’s. Click here
The contemplation of emotional resilience often leads to ancient botanical companions that have accompanied human vulnerability across centuries, where plants like borage once symbolized courage in medieval gardens not as pharmacological agents but as cultural metaphors for inner fortitude. Its historical association with lifting the spirits reflects a persistent human desire to locate solace in the natural world during periods of heaviness or disorientation, a longing that transcends epochs yet manifests differently within each cultural framework. Contemporary approaches to wellbeing inherit this layered legacy while navigating an increasingly complex informational landscape where personal discernment becomes paramount amid diverse therapeutic narratives and digital accessibility.
Individuals today encounter a spectrum of choices ranging from traditional herbal preparations to modern clinical interventions, each requiring careful consideration within the context of one’s own physiological and psychological constitution such as when one might encounter references to about Cenforce online access for fast acting erectile performance solutions while researching broader questions of health autonomy. This abundance of pathways underscores not convenience but the enduring solitude of individual judgment when confronting matters that intertwine bodily experience with existential meaning.
