Rose, the Heart of Facial SkinCare

July Health Forecast by Lorrie Hargis RA

Did you know that Rose is the Queen of Flowers?

Many queens since antiquity have been looking to the Queen of Flowers, the Rose to enhance their beauty. The Queen of Egypt Cleopatra would bathe in rosewater every day and use the perfume of rose blossoms to scent the sails of her royal ship to attract her lovers.

Through many legends, the Rose has been the centerpiece of the story.
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite, goddess of beauty, gave the Rose its name in honor of her son Eros by rearranging just one letter in his name.
Another Legend has it that Chloris, the goddess of flowers, stumbled upon a lifeless nymph while walking through the woods one day. Its death saddened her, and she turned it into a magnificent flower that the gods called the Queen of Flowers, the Rose.

Many say, Rose is the highest vibrational flower of all definitely making her the Queen.

Origins of Rose:

This beautiful flower, Rose has been around for approximately 35 million years. It belongs to the family Rosaceae and genus Rosa; the latter contains about 150 species. Rosa damascena Miller is the species used most in aromatherapy and skin care. The petals of the Rose are steam distilled into an essential oil.

Let’s turn you into a queen/king internally and externally with the queen of flowers, the Rose. A queen/king is the best version of herself/himself. How can Rose help you turn into the best version of yourself?

Relaxation techniques with Rose can help you be the best version of yourself, eliminating fatigue, stress, and tension. According to Igarashi et al., 2014, “studies showed that olfactory stimulation by rose oil induces physiological and psychological relaxation effects.”

Give this relaxation technique a try to help you inside and out.

  1. One bottle of Rose oil
  2. Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight.
  3. Take one deep breath through your nose like you are sniffing a rose and exhale out through your mouth like you are blowing on a dandelion.
  4. Repeat it twice more.
  5. Open up the Rose bottle and take a short sniff.
  6. Place your right thumb over your right nostril and breathe in the rose into the left nostril
  7. Place your left thumb over your left nostril and breathe in the rose into the right nostril
  8. See if Rose smelled differently when you smelled on with the different nostrils
  9. Repeat the breathing exercise.
  10. Open up the Rose bottle and take a short sniff.
  11. Now embrace yourself.
  12. Tell yourself that you love and accept every part of yourself.
  13. Write a positive affirmation and read it daily this month while sniffing Rose essential oil.
  14. Let us know how you are feeling in August

What can cause your facial skin to age prematurely?

  1. Lack of sleep
  2. Sun exposure
  3. Pigmentation
  4. Poor nutrition
  5. Drinking alcohol
  6. Smoking
  7. Lack of exercise
  8. Family issues

All these things can cause stress and tension in the muscles of the face causing them to contract and make wrinkles.

How can you help your face to release the contractions it holds with Rose essential oil?
Sadraei et al. found that Rose essential oil’s chemical constituents: geraniol and citronellol, reduce contractions in the ileum. Thus, we can imagine that Rose essential oil can also help you to let go of the contractions held in your face.
